Ning in the classroom - Week 1

I eventually got all of my students onto my 12imedia ning site. One of my students said something like "Oh this is just like myspace only it is just ours".
Of course we had the filter for social networks on (cathednet myinternet filtering) so I put in an exclusion for "12imedia.ning.com" which worked well except when they went to join, the special non-machine readable set of characters came from another location so the students could not see the graphics file. So now "ning.com" is no longer blocked. (One advantage of being the "network nazi").
One of my students also realised that she could make her own ning site as well.
It is still early days - in fact one day in but it all looks promising.
The site is add free (courtesy Ning) and privite - invite only - with "approve new member" moderation on.

Would love to see examples of a primary Ning. Would be handy to show the powers that be at school and maybe get another chance at an online setup going.

I have got all my Hum Biol 12 class on their ning.
We are now add free.
I am getting them to post stuff about themselves to start with, i have posted some relevant HB videos and a list of Important dates for assignments, tests etc.
Next step is to get some interaction and to try and start asking HB qs. Will also invite the Principal and Yr Coordinator to join.
